In this second book, Marguerite is forced to travel to various dimensions to try to sabotage her parents’ work that hasn’t progressed as far in those places, so she can get back the pieces of Paul’s soul that have been “scattered” by Conley. She and others can inhabit their “selves” in other dimensions by using the Firebird technology her parents invented, in the first book in the Firebird series, A Thousand Pieces of You. Marguerite has learned that Paul not only is not the bad guy in what happened to her father (or, actually, didn’t really happen), but she is in love with him, and there is a far worse enemy: Wyatt Conley, the genius who owns a powerful company in her world and in various other dimensions as well.
